New aligned spaces

Woodhouse have enjoyed working closely with the engineering consultancy firm, Royal Haskoning DHV, in creating new smarter workspaces for them nationwide. So far we have completed projects in Peterborough, Brighton and Birmingham: new spaces that meet the needs of the new ways of working of increased collaboration, efficiency, and productivity.

The overriding benefit of having partnered with Royal Haskoning to do their workspaces nationwide, is that their spaces can all reflect the brand and be aligned to each other, whilst still retaining their own unique features. Through the use of graphics, colour palettes, and furniture, Woodhouse brought in elements of each location into the design of the space, giving the employees a sense of home and belonging.

Birmingham: industrial design complements stunning views

The new workspace in Birmingham is on the 6th floor of the recently Cat A refurbished Cornerstone Building on Cornwall Street, Birmingham, providing panoramic views over the city. Working with the team in the Netherlands, the concept design for the industrial style Cat B fitout was created fully in 3D using Revit. It incorporated elements of sustainability, their corporate brand values as well as the identity of the local area through the use of manifestations and wall graphics in special spaces such as meeting rooms.

A key feature of this project was the Crittall effect double-glazed partitioning that provides an on-trend look as well as meeting the sound-proofing requirements. Bespoke joinery booths installed next to the full-height external glazing are also a lovely feature; a beautiful area where informal meetings and collaboration can take place.

Peterborough: A new future-proof Head Office

After 140 years in business, Royal HaskoningDHV moved to a new, greener, more sustainable office at Westpoint in Lynch Wood in Peterborough. Jonathan Bull, Royal HaskoningDHV’s UK Resident Director and Business Unit Director for Industry & Buildings Europe said: “We are all very excited about this new office. It’s a great example of how we want to create a modern, healthy working environment that supports collaboration and creativity for our business in the UK. This is essential for attracting and retaining our future talent. We’re sure this environment will inspire us as consultants and engineers to unlock our full potential in working together with our clients and partners in enhancing society together.”

Brighton: the office resort

The design of the space in Brighton reflects Brighton’s name: ‘happiest city in Britain’ in a 2017 survey, with a cheerful colour scheme, maximising the natural light in the space, and a seaside themed breakout area.

The large reception area showcases graphics of seagulls and deck chair type seating, adding to the seafront theme as well as providing a pleasant welcoming space for visitors.

Woodhouse created an open plan working environment, with unallocated desks for engineers, and smaller meeting rooms for more confidential meetings.

Project summary

These beautiful new offices have a variety of key space typologies in which staff can carry out their work: breakout areas, meeting rooms and focus booths, informal working areas, collaboration spaces, and wellness rooms, complemented with furniture items that enable staff to work flexibly. It has been a pleasure working with Royal Haskoning and we look forward to continuing the journey with them in their future projects!
