Centrado

Fit for future expansion

Centrado is the largest framing materials supplier in the UK. To accommodate recent growth and future expansion plans, it recently acquired a prestigious, purpose-built new office and warehouse facility. Centrado commissioned Woodhouse to carry out the full design and fit-out of their new premises, with the brief of a modern design to complement the fantastic location overlooking a large lake in north Cambridgeshire.

Early input to ensure design fulfilment

Woodhouse liaised with the base build contractor at an early stage of this project to ensure that the build design would allow for all future design requirements of the fitout phase. We oversaw the installation of completely new energy efficient M&E systems, including PIR controlled LED lighting, air conditioning and heat recovery ventilation.

State-of-the art audio/visual, CCTV and access control systems were also added throughout the premises. The integral warehouse area provides Centrado with capacity to accommodate and manage more stock and a wider product range. It is similarly well-equipped, with a production and transport office that has full view of the large front-loading areas.

A gallery-like showroom

The new office complex has full glazing around its perimeter to maximise natural light and connect to the amazing views outside. Within this open plan space is a modern showroom with an ‘art gallery’ vibe to showcase Centrado’s range of products. Next to this sits a comfortable lounge where Centrado can welcome clients in a relaxing setting and showcase its products. At the rear of the office zone is a suite of executive meeting rooms with glass fronts that not only add to the light, airy ambience of the building but also give connection to teams in the open plan area.

Space to play with

Exposed concrete soffits and ductwork lend a modern industrial feel, while neutral colour tones were used throughout the premises to work in harmony with the natural habitat surrounding the south of the building.

There are privacy phone booths and flexible desk areas, as well as a generous breakout space with kitchen facilities for refuelling and relaxing.

The Woodhouse design team chose relocatable furniture pods to create a variety of settings for collaborative work, and also provide Centrado with maximum future flexibility.

Project summary

The overall result feels spacious, but not cavernous, with areas defined by bookshelf partitions and softened with planting. It provides a superb new headquarters building that meets Centrado’s current needs while also allowing for future growth.
