We are delighted to be delivering a new workspace for easyJet, in their existing 80,000ft2 Hangar 89, adjacent to London Luton Airport. Having delivered a new Integrated Control Centre and a new home for easyJet holidays at 800 Capability Green, we were commissioned to undertake works at Hangar 89. This exciting project will transform the existing space into a more efficient, collaborative, and vibrant workspace, as easyJet prepares to spend more time together in the office.
easyJet had a clear vision to improve communication and foster inter-departmental collaboration, and thus recognised the need for a more dynamic work environment. After a thorough workspace strategy process, which included leadership interviews, focus groups, and a detailed review of space utilisation, the Woodhouse team proposed a solution that will meet the needs of up to the circa 1500 staff, whilst supporting the airline's vision.
Our strategy focused on shifting the space towards an activity-based working model, optimising office layouts, and providing a variety of environments to enhance communication and teamwork. The selected design option features a full redesign of the open working areas and reworking existing rooms to increase efficiency, and additional new workspaces. This will create a better balance of spaces suited to different work activities while improving the overall employee experience.
To provide a vibrant experience, the design introduced themed zones throughout the workspace, designed to evoke airline destinations, and transport employees into the right headspace for the task at hand. Each zone will be visually distinguished using vibrant colours, natural materials, and wayfinding elements, bringing easyJet’s vision of a fresh, dynamic workspace to life.
This project presented unique challenges due to the growing scope and tight timelines. However, it has been a pleasure to work closely on these with the easyJet team, and we are confident the workspace will be a flexible, engaging environment that will support the airline's long-term goals. We look forward to seeing this transformation unfold and delivering a space that will serve easyJet employees for years to come!
